The Bride Prepared

God is our Refuge

“I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” Revelation 21:2

Aloha Girls!
There are moments in Scripture when God pulls back the veil just enough for us to see the end of the story. The book of Revelation (the end of the story) is the unveiling of Jesus Christ. We see Jesus coming as victor to make all the injustices in this world right, as He reigns as Judge and King. In Revelation 21:2 John sees something breathtaking; the New Jerusalem descending from heaven. But it’s not described only as a city. It’s described as a bride. This seems strange at first, but remember we are called the bride of Christ. God is showing us that what He has been preparing for some 2,000 years is not just a destination, but a relationship. It speaks of intimacy + oneness.

Imagine a groom whose been away for a long time. Before he left, he made a promise to his bride: “I’m going to prepare a place for you… and one day I’m coming back for you.”
While he’s gone, the bride is being prepared and her dress is being made ready. Everything is leading up to this one moment – the wedding day and finally the day comes!

She’s radiant, beautiful! He’s waiting for her to walk down the aisle. There’s so much joy and anticipation. Everything they’ve longed for is about to happen. But here’s the question: Is the focus on the house he prepared…. or on the moment they are finally together? I know that’s a silly question. It’s all about the bride and groom. The house matters… but only because they will share it together. The joy is found in relationship!

In the same way, the New Jerusalem is not merely about streets of gold or foundations filled with precious stones. It is about God dwelling with His people. There will be no distance, no interruptions or separation ever again! We will see Jesus face to face! All of history is moving toward this moment in time: God with His people… fully + forever!

I encourage you to read the book of Revelation this Summer. It is the only book in the Bible that includes a specific promise of blessing for those who read it. As you read, you will see Jesus revealed in full view throughout every chapter as He unfolds His plan for the end times… not to scare you, but to prepare you. You will be blessed as your heart is strengthen and prepared like a bride ready for her Bridegroom. You will be blessed as you are equipped and encouraged to share your love for Jesus with others.

Eagerly awaiting His return, Karen
